Negotiators Have a Week to Decide if Pandemic Agreement Possible by December
The pandemic agreement talks resumed on Monday for two weeks, but parties only have a week to decide whether they have sufficient common ground to call a special World Health Assembly (WHA) in December to adopt the document.
With efforts underway to once again negotiate the Pandemic Treaty, WHO watcher James Roguski shares this news: United States Ambassador Pamela Hamamoto suggested a change to the legal structure of the negotiations. She advocated that the agreement be adopted as amendments to the International Health Regulations rather than as a separate agreement. "We were pleased that member states were able to find compromise solutions and adopt the IHR amendments earlier this year and we hope the [Intergovernmental Negotiating Body] INB will agree to adopt many of these solutions rather than reopening challenging issues with little time remaining.
We realize member states are frustrated by the remaining gaps in the text and are feeling pressured to agree to provisions which they feel are either insufficient to address their concerns or overly burdensome.
However, we should acknowledge that the text, as it currently stands, goes a long way to addressing the shortcomings and inequities uncovered during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It would be a terrible missed opportunity if the INB is unable to reach consensus after three years of hard work.
We cannot afford to let this opportunity slip away."

OCT 15, 2024 - US author/researcher James Rogulski reports on the progress of the WHO Pandemic Treaty which was NOT agreed upon at the WHO Summit earlier this year: "Despite the fact that they have until the 78th World Health Assembly at the end of May 2025 to conclude the negotiations, the “Bureau” of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) has been pushing to reach “consensus” on a Pandemic Agreement “Lite” by November 11, 2024 in order to schedule a special session of the World Health Assembly in December 2024 at which they hope to adopt the “Pandemic Agreement.” " Rogulski looks at the latest draft and points out many areas of concern, recommending that citizens NOT STAY QUIET. For example "The inclusion of cell-based and gene-based therapies in the category of pandemic-related health products is absolutely inappropriate. The World Health Organization is seeking global governance. They want to become a legislative authority instead of an advisory board, giving them extraordinary powers. Behind the scenes, significant developments are underway that will impact our individual and national sovereignty – developments that are not being shared in mainstream media? The WHO is proposing a new Pandemic Treaty and 300 amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR). If passed, what used to be recommendations from the WHO will become law. The WHO's director general, who is not elected by the people, will become the single most powerful bureaucrat in the world and single handedly can declare a pandemicor potential pandemic at any time.
Will this put our basic human rights and freedoms at risk? ...and why does such an huge change need to happen so quickly?
The WHO does what funders tell them to do...You may think of the WHO as an organization that works to protect the health and well being of WE the people. It can be said that, in the beginning (1946), the WHO did do good things for the world. Now, 78 years later, it is important to understand the WHO's funding model. 20-25% of their funding comes from private sources (big pharma). The remaining 80% comes from the richest organizations in the world. Here is the concern - and this is just one of many - to ensure continued funding from year to year, the WHO likely makes decisions that benefit their funders. Ultimately the WHO will prioritize the needs and demands of their funders over the rights and freedoms of the people - PROFIT before SAFETY. Decision making would be handed over to international technocrats rather than elected leaders. Top this up with the new laws that will be put in place if the 300 amendments to the IHR and treaty are accepted and we could be signing up for a world without sovereignty.
We continually hear "fact checkers" or "misinformation experts" say that to mention a potential loss of national sovereignty if these two documents are signed is to "promote misinformation". It is TRUE that there is a section in the Pandemic Treaty that states that NONE of the terms here will impact the sovereigny of the nations. YET that wording does not align with the wording of the many other sections in both documents. "Fact checkers" need to look more closely at all the terms and gain and understanding of their implications.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
